NP demand grows, AMN report finds

Nurse practitioners, nurse anesthetists and physician assistants comprised 23% of the 2,138 searches undertaken from April 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024, by recruiter AMN Healthcare. While searches for advanced practice providers grew from 19% last year, AMN’s searches for primary care physicians fell from 17% to 14%. The Texas-based recruiter says NPs are staffing a growing number of urgent care settings, retail clinics and telemedicine platforms, as well as filling needs caused by the physician shortage. Due to the high demand for NPs, starting salaries rose 8.6% from $158,000 in 2023 to $164,000 in 2024, according to AMN’s report. (HealthLeaders Media article, 8/6/24)
