N.J. clinicians required to take bias training to reduce maternal disparities
Rules published this week in New Jersey will require nurses and doctors who provide prenatal and post-natal care to take bias training in an attempt to lower maternal health disparities among women of color. The training, to begin next year, will focus on implicit and explicit biases. It will cover the effects of historical and contemporary exclusion and oppression of minority communities and how to communicate more effectively across racial, ethnic, religious and gender identities. In addition, the training will cover reproductive justice and power dynamics, as well as corrective measures to lower explicit and implicit bias at the interpersonal and institutional levels.
