McKinsey estimates need for up to 450,000 nurses by 2025
An analysis from McKinsey published earlier this month estimated the United States may be short 200,000 to 450,000 registered nurses by 2025, assuming direct patient care models remain the same. To make up the deficit, the report estimated the number of new graduates entering and staying in the nursing workforce would need to more than double every year for the next three years. “Even if there was a huge increase in high school or college students seeking nursing careers, they would likely run into a block: There are not enough spots in nursing schools, and there are not enough educators, clinical rotation spots or mentors for the next generation of nurses," the analysis stated.
