White paper details how AI can empower nurse leaders

An AONL Foundation Leadership Think Tank white paper explores how artificial intelligence can empower nurses, reduce practice burdens and permit nurses to focus their expertise where it matters most. Moderated by Patricia Mook, DNP, RN, senior vice president, Advocate Health, Chalotte, N.C. and Kelly Aldrich, DNP, RN, professor, director of innovation, nursing informatics, Vanderbilt University School of Nursing, Nashville, Tenn., the think tank convened 30 experts from health information technology, nursing practice and academic settings. Participants demonstrated how AI tools could personalize competency development, ease documentation burden and create immersive learning experiences for nursing students. The white paper provides examples of the ways organizations can focus on areas of highest cognitive demand and involve nurses in the design process to select and tailor AI tools to enhance clinical decision-making.
