HRSA releases 2018 nurse workforce survey data

The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) released the results of its 2018 National Sample Survey of Registered Nurses (NSSRN), filling a decade-long gap in federally gathered nursing workforce data. From 1977 until 2008, the NSSRN provided the most comprehensive data set on nurse demographics, education, employment settings and salaries. The 2018 survey was redesigned to include more nurse practitioners in the sample and to gather additional information on topics such as telehealth and interprofessional team-based care. One highlight: Today’s nursing workforce is more highly educated, with 64% of nurses possessing bachelor’s or advanced degrees. (HRSA eNews story, 1/16/20)
