Drug-resistant Shigellosis infections increase
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention last week advised clinicians to report drug-resistant strains of Shigella infections to their state or local health department. The agency also alerted clinicians to educate patients and communities of increased risk of Shigella infections. Extensively drug-resistant Shigella infections comprised about 5% of cases reported to the CDC last year, up from zero in 2015. (CDC Health Advisory, 2/24/23)
