CNOs provide tips to reduce nurse manager turnover
Ochsner’s Leadership Institute and nurse leader retreats have contributed to the New Orleans-based system’s low nurse manager and director turnover rate, according to AONL member Tiffany Murdock, DNP, RN, senior vice president and CNO. The institute places nurses on pathways to prepare them for leadership. In January 2025, Ochsner will launch a leadership structure to better account for the ideal employee count under the control of nurse managers and supervisors. AONL member Deana Sievert, DNP, RN, CNO of Columbus-based UH/Ross Heart Hospital at The Ohio State Health System, says her system has revamped its onboarding training and prioritized conflict management training to prepare nurses with less experience. These nurses increasingly are filling management positions that once went to nurses with at least 10 years of experience. (Becker’s Hospital Review article, 11/22/24)
