Black maternal mortality rises in 2020
Pregnancy-related deaths increased again in 2020, especially among Black and Hispanic women, according to data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The U.S. maternal death rate rose from 20.1 to 23.8 per 100,000 live births and racial disparities widened. Rates for non-Hispanic white women were 19.1 compared to 55.3 for Black women per 100,000 live births, up from 44 in 2019. (Medpage Today article, 2/23/22)
