Biden Administration funds $558 million to address maternal health
The Biden Administration this week announced $558 million in funding to improve maternal health, including $440 million to expand voluntary, evidence-based maternal, infant and early childhood home visiting services for eligible families nationwide. The remaining $118.5 million will be used over five years to build the public health infrastructure in 46 states and six territories to better identify and prevent pregnancy-related deaths. The funds will expand support to Maternal Mortality Review Committees, which review deaths occurring within one year of the end of a pregnancy, determine if those deaths were preventable and recommend ways to prevent them. Separately, the Administration awarded $100 million to increase the number of navigators who will help Americans sign up for health coverage. (CDC news release, 8/27/24)
