Begley, Hughes Outline Integrated Leadership Model

AONL leaders Robyn Begley, DNP, RN, and Ronda Hughes, PhD, RN, discuss how an integrated leadership model can align commonality, communication and expectations of the various leadership concepts across care settings and nursing roles. Writing in the June issue of Nurse Leader, they note that while all nurses can exhibit leadership qualities, success in formal leadership roles is determined by accomplishments ─ or measurable outcomes ─ and the mastery of leadership knowledge, skills and abilities. The model demonstrates this progression of a person’s mastery of leadership competencies, experience and accomplishments. Begley is AONL CEO and American Hospital Association CNO and senior vice president of workforce and Hughes is AONL senior director of professional practice.
