AHRQ hospital safety culture report shows high teamwork scores

More than 80% of respondents said hospital staff work together as an effective team, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality’s 2024 Surveys on Patient Safety Culture found. Eighty percent of respondents reported supervisors, managers or clinical leaders consider staff suggestions for improving patient safety, do not encourage taking shortcuts and address patient safety concerns. However, only 64% of respondents said leadership treats staff fairly when they make mistakes and emphasized learning from mistakes and supporting staff involved in errors. Only 55% of respondents said their workplace had enough staff to handle the workload. The survey included responses from 284,036 providers and staff from 445 hospitals, with a 52% average response rate across hospitals.
