AHA podcast explores maternal care for Indigenous women

An American Hospital Association podcast highlights ways to improve maternal care for Indigenous women, who are more likely than other women to experience complications from pregnancy and childbirth, leading to higher rates of anxiety and depression. Jennifer Richards, PhD, assistant professor at the Center for Indigenous Health, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and Jennifer Crawford, PhD, clinical psychologist and assistant professor at the University of New Mexico Health Science Center, discuss the perspectives needed to provide maternal care for Indigenous peoples. They also discuss the importance of awareness of Indigenous cultural and spiritual practices.
