AHA blog describes how to reduce pediatric sepsis
An American Hospital Association blog discusses how to reduce pediatric sepsis, which results in the hospitalization of more than 75,000 U.S. children annually. Staying up-to-date on childhood vaccines is the best strategy to reduce sepsis. The second is to spot early-warning signs of sepsis as quickly as possible. Signs of severe infection, such as changes in temperature, heart rate, mental alertness and skin color look different in children of different ages. If sepsis sets in, minutes matter. Treatment may include rapid infusion of intravenous fluids, antimicrobials and medications for blood pressure support. (AHA blog article, 4/26/24)
