AHA, AONL Respond to Tulsa Hospital Shooting
“Yesterday was another unfortunate example of gun violence in our country,” Rick Pollack, president and CEO of the American Hospital Association (AHA) said in response to the June 1 mass shooting at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Okla. Pollack said the event reinforced the need for urgent legislative action. “We are deeply saddened by this tragedy and mourn for the victims and their families in this horrific time of grief.” said AONL CEO Robyn Begley, DNP, RN. “We will continue to work with the AHA on initiatives to prevent hospital violence and in encouraging legislators to address gun violence swiftly.”
Today marks the sixth annual AHA #HAVhope Friday, a national day of awareness to highlight how America’s hospitals and health systems confront violence in their workplaces and communities. Hospitals and health system leaders can use social media to share what they are doing to cultivate partnerships, innovations and creative thinking to foster peace and create safer environments for workers and patients using the #HAVhope hashtag.
