Cyber criminals use coronavirus in health system phishing attacks
Cyber criminals are using the 2019 novel coronavirus to launch malicious phishing campaigns against health systems, the Health and Human Services’ Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response reported. The attacks use emails with attached Word, PDF and MP4 files purporting to offer guidance on preventing the infection. John Riggi, American Hospital Association (AHA) senior advisor for cybersecurity and risk, advises health systems to remind staff not to click on suspicious emails, links or attachments and to use a warning banner on emails originating outside the organization.
