CDC updates measles prevention recommendations
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated its interim infection prevention and control recommendations for measles in health care facilities this month. Key measures for preventing the spread of measles in these settings include ensuring all health care providers have presumptive immunity; identifying and isolating patients with known or suspected measles; promoting respiratory hygiene and cough etiquette; and appropriately managing exposed and ill providers. The updated publication appeared as the number of U.S. measles cases in 2019 reached 1,148 on July 18. (CDC publication, 7/2019)
