Authors argue for CNS population management
Writing in Nursing Economics, four clinical nurse specialists make the case CNSs have the aptitude, skill and opportunity to manage the needs of the expanding population of patients with chronic conditions. The authors express concern the “complex care of patients with chronic conditions threatens the stability of health care economics.” They conclude, “Evidence supports the practice of CNSs and their impact on the Triple Aim, the gold standard of quality care. CNSs improve access to care, drive care coordination, provide staff mentorship through expert-level nursing, and impact the economics of health care through reimbursement and cost avoidance.” (Medscape article, 7/10/19)
