Active listening improves patient experience
Active listening enhances the patient experience of care. That’s the conclusion of Nancy Loos, PhD, RN, whose doctoral research looked at how patients perceive nurses’ listening behaviors. Her observations on which behaviors help nurses connect effectively with patients and which behaviors undermine that goal may be useful to nurse managers and others who want to improve their facility’s scores on the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey.
