Study examines nurse scientist role across academia and practice
Using the guiding principles of academic-practice partnerships outlined by AONL and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, nurse scientists described the outcomes, facilitators and vulnerabilities associated with their role in an article in Nursing Outlook. The authors were PhD-prepared nurses appointed in a research role at Columbia University School of Nursing and hospitals in the greater New York City area. As nurse scientists, they were able to conduct and disseminate joint research, translate evidence into practice, develop educational programs for health system nurses, promote scholarly activities among health system nurses and increase the visibility of PhD-prepared nurses. They also faced stresses associated with workload, promotion and institutional priorities. (Nursing Outlook article, 10/9/19)
