Report offers guidance on meeting ICP standards

A quality review by the Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP) offers insights from surveyors on how facilities can improve their performance to meet infection prevention and control (IPC) standards. Solutions involve teaching staff to recognize and report concerns, such as rusty table tops that cannot be properly cleaned and open cleaning supplies in food-preparation areas. The report also recommends updating IPC policies at least every three years. HFAP is authorized by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to survey hospitals for compliance with the Medicare conditions of participation and coverage.
