AONL Names Maureen Swick Its Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient

The American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL) today announced Maureen Swick as the 2022 recipient of its prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award. The award honors an AONL member recognized by the nursing community as a significant leader in the nursing profession and served AONL in an important leadership capacity. AONL will honor Swick during the opening plenary April 12 at the AONL annual conference in San Antonio.
As senior vice president and enterprise nurse executive for Atrium Health, Charlotte, N.C., Swick represents over 20,000 nurses throughout Atrium Health to ensure consistency in nursing policy, strategy, practice and quality. Swick is also responsible for systemwide pharmacy operations.
Swick has more than 30 years’ experience in health care in a variety of nursing leadership and management roles at hospitals and health systems across the northeastern United States. Prior to joining Atrium Health in 2017, Swick was chief executive officer of AONL and senior vice president, chief nursing officer of the American Hospital Association (AHA). She previously served as a board member for AONL and the AHA, and president of the AONL Board of Directors. She served as chair of the Northern Virginia Hospital Alliance, an organization responsible for regional planning, collaboration, communication and education/training related to disaster preparedness for the region.
Swick has served on various community and state task forces related to workforce issues, BSN progression and developing the future workforce through partnership with local high schools. She has received numerous awards including, the 2011 Outstanding Achievement Award-Nursing Spectrum and the AONE National Award in Leadership Informatics. She earned her Ph.D. at Kennedy-Western University and a Master of Science in nursing from Columbia University, New York.
