Nurse managers reveal millennial role expectations
Interviews with 25 nurse managers in 13 states revealed opportunities to develop and retain millennials serving in managerial roles. Among other notable observations, researchers found that direct supervisors were influential in identifying leadership potential and grooming millennials for nurse manager roles. Additionally, having a supportive and responsive director was important to millennial managers’ job satisfaction. With millennials poised to make up a majority of the nursing workforce, “[l]earning how to more effectively recruit, transition, and retain these emerging nurse leaders will be critical both to organizations and the future of nursing,” the authors wrote.
