AONL guidelines on nurse leader role in technology discussed

In an April Journal of Nursing Administration column, AONL leaders discuss the organization’s six guiding principles on the nurse leader’s role in digital transformation. They highlight the need for nurse leaders to understand the many facets of technology, including artificial intelligence capabilities, to improve care and staff experiences. AONL intends for the guidelines to serve as a blueprint to guide nurse leaders on how to navigate technological transformation and as a call to action to ensure nurses are knowledgeable and engaged in making decisions about technology, particularly ones involving patient care and workflow. Nurses should be skilled in data science, and academic and practice leaders should collaborate to integrate digital solutions into curricula to prepare them to practice.
