Oschner CNO discusses leveraging technology

AONL member Tiffany Murdock, PhD, RN, the CNO of Ochsner Health, explains how the health system is utilizing technology to enable nurses to work at the top of their licenses and spend more time with patients. The New Orleans-based system wants to give extra tasks bedside nurses often complete to virtual nurses. In addition, Murdock would like to incorporate “ambient listening technology” like an Alexa to enable patients to close their blinds, turn their lights on, adjust their air, or search for objects. She says ambient listening could enable nurses to document an assessment without looking at a screen. She also wants to integrate devices that can take vital signs into Ochsner’s technology to relieve CNAs of taking vital signs every two to four hours. (HealthLeaders Media article, 7/1/24)
