Vidant Health increases team engagement with love and empathy
Health care leaders at Vidant Health, Greenville, N.C., improved worker engagement through an approach to team culture centered around love and empathy. The effort, which aimed to improve patient and provider experiences by creating a safe and welcoming place to work, produced results. Surveys showed engagement increased for multiple team members, including by 11.2% for clinical leaders and 14.2% for clinical supervisors. Nurse turnover also was below the national average. A survey question related to whether workers saw responses to errors as nonpunitive showed the most improvement of any question on the survey.
