Study: NINR support inadequate
According to a review of federal funding for nursing research from 1992 to 2017, National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) funding to nursing schools peaked in 2005, and NINR dispersed fewer dollars to nursing schools than did other sources within the National Institutes of Health since 2011. Given the dramatic increase in the number of nursing doctoral programs, the authors conclude, “Federal funding of nursing research is inadequate and a chokepoint relative to the number of doctoral programs. We suggest the NINR budget would need to increase at least five-fold to over $763 million to adequately fund nursing science.” (Nursing Outlook article, 12/27/19)
