Search firm discusses crucial skills for CNO job seekers
The COVID-19 pandemic led to high unemployment in many fields, but according to Rachel Polhemus, a senior partner at the Chicago-based search firm WittKieffer, chief nursing officers (CNOs) who are seeking positions will find available opportunities in the current market. Despite an ongoing shortage of nurses and high nurse-turnover rates, Polhemus said organizations are looking for “strong leader[s] to help drive recruitment and retention strategies.” Polhemus noted CNOs must have solid relationship-building skills and the financial acumen needed to manage resources, including the cost of recruiting nurses. Also mentioned were social skills needed to understand and maintain staff morale during the pandemic. (HealthLeaders Media , 2/8/21)
