Begley: Pandemic heightens importance of WHO call for investment in nursing
As part of the World Health Organization (WHO) International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife, WHO released the State of the World’s Nursing Report 2020 this month. The report calls on the international community to invest heavily in nursing education, strengthen nurse leadership and create millions of nursing jobs in the coming decade. “In the midst of a global pandemic, this report is of even greater significance,” writes Robyn Begley, DNP, RN, American Hospital Association (AHA) senior vice president and chief nursing officer and AONL chief executive officer. “As we look past this crisis, it is incumbent on all health leaders to utilize evidence in this report to pursue solutions that meet today’s challenges as well as those of the future.” (AHA News story, 4/21/20)
