Nurses simulate hand holding to comfort COVID-19 patients
Two ICU nurses in Sao Carlos, Brazil, developed a novel approach to comforting COVID-19 patients, which is spreading throughout their small city. They filled latex medical gloves with warm water, tied them off like water balloons and placed them on the hands of unconscious patients battling COVID-19. In addition to providing emotional support, the warm gloves increase blood flow to the hands, ensuring more accurate readings of the patients’ blood oxygen levels. (Reuters article, 4/20/21)
