At the HealthLeaders Nursing Now Online Summit, three strategies emerged to guide nurse leaders as they navigate the work environment created by the COVID-19 pandemic. Nurse leaders should focus on the social determinants of health (SDOH), which have an impact on both health outcomes and health care costs. They should keep the lines of communication open with staff as a strategy for engaging and retaining personnel. They also should follow effective business communication practices to reduce gossip and guide constructive conversations.
