Nurse leaders reflect on the value of teamwork on during the pandemic
In recent interviews, nurse leaders said collaboration among team members is more important than ever with COVID-19 elevating the risk of burnout. A review of existing research into teamwork in health care showed teamwork increased job satisfaction, improved patient outcomes, lowered costs and reduced turnover and burnout. AONL member Natalia Cineas, DNP, RN, senior vice president and system chief nurse executive at NYC Health + Hospitals in New York City, said tackling the pandemic has also strengthened nurses’ sense of belonging to a unified profession, despite their areas of specialization. “We’ve become closer than we’ve ever been,” she said.
