NCC urges CMS to make emergency waivers permanent
The Nursing Community Coalition (NCC) urged the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to continue to remove practice barriers and encourage innovation to ensure patients have access to “the highest quality nursing care.” In a July 15 letter, the NCC specifically asked CMS to make permanent the waivers it implemented in response to the COVID-19 public health emergency. These waivers enabled advanced practice registered nurses in a variety of settings to deliver services within their scopes of practice to Medicare patients without physician supervision or sign-off. The waivers also increased reimbursement for telehealth services, which have been widely employed during the pandemic. AONL is one of 63 national nursing organizations that make up the NCC.
