Mentor encourages front-line nurses to lead during COVID crisis
Millennial front-line nurses have an opportunity to lead during the current public health crisis, and compassionate mentors can support them as they navigate unprecedented challenges. In the latest issue of Nursing Economic$, a nurse/mentor pair who witnessed the COVID-19 pandemic’s impacts in New York described their experiences and detailed how mentorship can help younger nurses weather problems and contribute to solutions. “Crisis provides the impetus to actively engage in nursing’s Magnet Core Principles,” they wrote. “This is the moment for strong leaders to apply these values by being present and ‘in the trenches’ with their teams, providing clear, honest, and open communication to offset fears and the unknown.”
