Leaders reflect on careers, role of nurses
Two AONL members shared reflections on their career paths with HealthLeaders Media during National Nurses Week. Adele A. Webb, PhD, RN, executive dean of health care initiatives at Strategic Education, Inc., Herndon, Va., recalled an experience with an HIV patient that spurred her to learn everything she could about the disease and gave her a career-defining mission. Iain Holmes, DNP, RN, associate chief nurse at Albany (N.Y.) Stratton VA Medical Center, entered the profession in 2011 after discovering his passion for interacting with patients as a hospital volunteer. He shared the insight that, as a nurse, “I have a profound ability to determine how people feel in all sorts of situations.” (HealthLeaders Media story, 5/1/20)
