Joint Commission offers resources to fight nurse burnout
The Joint Commission is taking steps to help hospitals combat the problems of nurse stress and burnout. Last year, the accrediting agency conducted a national survey of nurse engagement. Fifteen percent of nurses reported feelings of burnout, which the commission considers to be a leading patient safety concern. In July, the Joint Commission issued a Quick Safety brief detailing ways employers can develop a more resilient nursing workforce. Education, opportunities for reflection, and customizing EHRs to better support nursing workflow are among the solutions the brief puts forth. (HealthLeaders Media story, 1/17/20)
