Joint Commission approves changes to National Patient Safety goals

After reviewing its National Patient Safety Goals (NPSGs), the Joint Commission has approved moving requirements for the following NPSGs to its accreditation standards: Transfusion errors related to patient misidentification; multidrug-resistant organisms; central line-associated bloodstream infections; surgical site infections; and catheter-associated urinary tract infections. The revisions apply to all accreditation programs and can be viewed on the prepublication standards page of the Joint Commission’s website. The changes become effective July 1.
