Job losses tied to health care avoidance during pandemic
While concerns about exposure to the coronavirus reduced the number of people accessing medical care across the board this year, families that experienced a job-related loss of income were significantly more likely to report an unmet medical need, according to a brief from the Urban Institute. A second brief analyzed the impact of such job losses on health insurance status. The share of adults with employer-sponsored health insurance fell this spring, but the findings varied depending on whether individuals resided in states that had or had not expanded Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act.
