Initiative lowers antibiotic prescribing at urgent care clinics
Intermountain Healthcare in Salt Lake City launched a four-part set of best practices for antibiotic prescribing at its urgent care clinics in July 2019. Since doing so, prescribing at those clinics dropped by nearly 30%. The effort was initiated with a $1.8 million contract awarded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to Intermountain Healthcare and the University of Utah to improve antibiotic prescribing at urgent care centers. The goal of all parties was to create a model for antibiotic stewardship that could be replicated at other urgent care centers across the country. (HealthLeaders Media story, 1/22/20)
