IHI rolls out patient safety action plan

This week the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) released Safer Together: A National Action Plan to Advance Patient Safety. The 41-page report contains implementation tactics, case examples, tools and resources focused on improving culture, leadership and governance, workforce safety and learning systems. AONL Past President Mary Beth Kingston, PhD, RN, CNO of Advocate Aurora Health, co-chaired the IHI committee responsible for developing the plan. In addition to protecting patients, a culture of safety also promotes the psychological well-being of those providing their care, Kingston observed. (HealthLeaders Media article, 9/15/20)
