Households hearing on maternal mortality, infant health
In a joint hearing entitled Expecting More: Addressing America’s Maternal and Infant Health Crisis, two subcommittees of the House Education and Labor Committee heard testimony focused on ways to reduce maternal mortality and eliminate racial disparities in maternal and infant health. Leaders from the March of Dimes, the U.S. Breastfeeding Committee and the National Birth Equity Collaborative offered proposals addressing federal, state and private sector approaches. These included: expanding Medicaid postpartum coverage, protecting pregnant women from discrimination in the workplace and combatting structural racism and implicit bias in health care systems.
