FDA grants emergency use of masks, ventilators
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an umbrella emergency use authorization (EUA) for surgical masks meeting certain performance requirements in response to concerns about inadequate supply. The agency also posted an appendix listing authorized surgical masks. In a series of separate EUAs, the FDA granted emergency use of several devices for patient ventilation and issued guidance for extending the “in-use time” of certain medications when necessity dictates their use beyond the timeframe indicated on their labels.
