Events Highlight Health Care’s Role in Combating Human Trafficking
Mary Beth Kingston, PhD, RN, chief nursing officer at Advocate Aurora Health in Milwaukee and immediate past president of AONL, welcomed more than 150 health care providers this week at an American Hospital Association (AHA) Hospitals Against Violence event focused on human trafficking prevention. The event was part of a series held in conjunction with the Jones Day law firm and HEAL Trafficking offering resources to help providers combat human trafficking in health care systems. Other speakers included AONL member Claire Zangerle, DNP, RN, chief nurse executive at Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh and an AHA board member. Other sessions addressed expanding leadership capacity to combat human trafficking, federal efforts to support hospitals in this cause and a status report on anti-trafficking efforts in health care.
