COVID-19 symptoms linger in some patients
Some patients with COVID-19 experience ongoing symptoms, leaving them feeling frustrated and alone. Prolonged symptoms range from low-grade fevers to exercise-induced fatigue and neurological issues such as memory loss and trouble recalling words. These physical symptoms are compounded by the psychological effects brought about by a lack of information about the disease and its long-term consequences. Health care providers can offer supportive care, and family and coworkers often do not understand the delay in recovery. As clinicians move into the next phase of care, increasing evidence points to a need to consider the effects of and interventions for prolonged symptoms of COVID-19. (STAT News story, 7/8/20)
