CDC releases capacity estimating tool
COVID-19Surge is a spreadsheet-based tool, which health care leaders can use to estimate the surge in demand for hospital services during the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which hosts the tool, users can estimate the number of COVID-19 patients needing hospitalization, intensive care and ventilator support. Users can also compare those estimates with existing or expanded hospital capacity. The tool allows users to assess up to three community mitigation strategies simultaneously and compare the impacts on hospital resources with a “no intervention” scenario.
