AONL Nurse Manager Competencies employed in succession planning
Nurse leaders at WellSpan Health, an eight-hospital health system in York, Pa., developed a successful succession plan by implementing two professional development pathways to both attract and retain clinical nurses and nurse leaders. WellSpan based both its nurse manager residency and nursing leadership academy on AONL Nurse Manager Competencies. An article in the April issue of Nursing Management describes WellSpan’s reasons for developing the pathways and the curriculum employed. The authors also include examples of projects used, information on candidate selection and a discussion of program outcomes.
