AONL CEO Begley Embraces Change in Nursing Profession

In a one-on-one interview with HealthLeaders Media, AONL CEO Robyn Begley, DNP, RN, draws on her leadership experience to make the case for nurses embracing change. As her career evolved, she noticed a positive evolution in her profession. “Nurses were previously seen as individuals who carried out physicians' orders,” she observes. “Now we are recognized as a distinct profession that not only cares for the sick and injured, but we also protect, promote and optimize health and wellness. We advocate for the care of patients, not just individually, but also in communities and populations.” Begley anticipates numerous challenges on the horizon: recruiting and retaining a diverse and inclusive workforce, fighting community and workplace violence, adjusting to the rise of consumerism, addressing social inequalities and adopting technology.
