AONL award winner discusses building teams and trust
Ann Marie T. Brooks, PhD, RN, president at Mount Carmel College of Nursing, Columbus, Ohio, shared her perspective on leadership in the Journal of Nursing Administration this month. Brooks described formative experiences as a member of the U.S. Army Nurse Corps and elsewhere, which shaped her leadership style and honed her ability to build teams. She cited building trust with other leaders and listening to all team members as key leadership tools. Her advice to young leaders: “Develop an attitude of gratitude for others because it will serve as the foundation for building trust, action, appreciation, and advocacy that will serve to energize you every day.” Brooks received this year’s prestigious AONL Lifetime Achievement Award.
