Zarubi discusses what makes virtual nursing successful
Nursing leaders who want to start virtual nursing programs should start small, include front-line staff and patients in decision-making, and prioritize seamless integration with electronic health record software, says AONL member Kathi Zarubi, DNP, RN. The senior vice president and CNO at Arizona-based HonorHealth relies on a nursing informatics council and clinical technology council comprised of front-line multidisciplinary bodies to weigh options and make decisions about potential technological solutions. In addition, Zarubi stresses the need to first pilot initiatives, address concerns directly and ensure virtual nurses feel welcomed as part of the organization. Separately, the first quarter issue of Advanced Critical Care is devoted to virtual nursing. (HealthLeaders Media article, 1/22/24)
