Workforce study reveals exodus from nursing in next 5 years
An analysis of survey data collected from February to June 2020 revealed one-fifth of responding nurses plan to retire or leave the profession over the next five years. Other trends examined included demographic shifts in the make-up of the nursing workforce, nurses’ educational attainment and their telehealth use. The National Council of State Boards of Nursing and the National Forum of State Nursing Workforce Centers began conducting the biennial nursing workforce survey in 2012. More than 42,000 RNs and almost 40,000 LPNs/LVNs took part. An article discussing the survey results and their implications appears in the spring issue of In Focus.
