Weston describes how nurse leaders think differently post-pandemic

AONL member Marla Weston, PhD, RN, CEO of Weston Consulting, discusses how nurse leader thinking has changed given the pandemic, a change in demographic age groups, the advent of virtual technologies and the onset of artificial intelligence. In a December Nurse Leader article, Weston summarizes interview findings conducted with 12 nurse leaders from March to May 2024. She says nurse leaders must implement new technology to improve practice, engage young nurses, prepare the next generation of nurse leaders and attract support for the profession. She calls on nurses to be involved in redesigning a health system that “offers better value to patients and better values nurses’ contributions.” Weston notes nurse leaders need to harness the agility they used during the pandemic to incorporate necessary changes.
